Primary Documents
The primary documents that I used all had something to do with the time that Alex spent in the Army. Documents such as the Casualty Report depicted above are proof that the man that I have spent so much time looking for is real. The pictures of him and of his regiment only add to this. Although I learned that his burial documents were burned along with hundreds of others, I was still able to gather enough information to complete a comprehensive biography. Most of the primary documents that I used were distributed by the National Archives. The most helpful of all of the sources that I used, however, were the enlistment records. They provided information on where he was from, how much education he had received, and the date of enlistment. I was surprised to have found more than one image of Alex Lux, but delighted at the same time. It was visual proof that all of the information was real, and that my search had not been in vain. I was also able to find his burial card, which contained additional information on where and how he was buried.
